Within the context of increasing internationalisation of both staff and students there is a recognised need to ensure that staff are equipped with the understanding and tools to enable an inclusive learning experience for students, and to encourage staff to interact effectively together. This paper discusses the activities of the programme manager of a professional development programme in teaching in higher education in introducing academic staff to current higher education agendas for widening diversity and equal opportunities. The areas of interest covered include the legislative and Higher Education Academy professional framework for equal opportunities, increasing prominence of internationalisation, and the underlying values of inclusivity as promoted within the institution. Specifically, this paper discusses tactics used to develop new staff's awareness of themselves, their colleagues, and students, and how they can develop their practice so that students are best equipped to work within a world that has increasing international focus in many occupations and professions.
