The University of Ulster strives to remain a sector leader in widening participation. Therefore in recognition of the growing need to focus on the learning support needs of the increasingly diverse student cohorts studying within the University of Ulster it was decided to develop a master's level module to develop and support staff to fulfil this function effectively. The module provides a conceptual underpinning for individuals whose duties and responsibilities involve supporting and guiding the development and/ or delivery of learning opportunities. In addition, the module has been designed to provide a SEDA-Professional Development Framework route (Student Support and Guidance) through which all those who are involved in providing student support and guidance may be recognized for their role. This session will critically review and evaluate the presenter's experience of facilitating the module and will draw on participants' experiences and feedback to highlight evidence of impact.
In particular, the session will identify the benefits of moving away from narrow role definitions to draw together staff across the institution in a learning environment which encourages sharing of practice and peer learning around a central aim of supporting the student experience.
