Abstract for AISHE Conference 2004

Reflective Practice in Higher Education There is currently great
momentum in Irish higher education institutions to focus on the
professional development of their lecturers, and in particular on
reflective practice and reflective portfolios. It is suggested
that if lecturers are adept at the art of reflection, it will not
only influence their practice of teaching but also assist those
who learn from them. Creators of reflective portfolios scaffold
their own learning and own professional development.

An intranet-based artefact created to aid lecturers in Griffith
College Dublin to facilitate the creation of reflective
portfolios will be displayed. It incorporates the key elements of
a portfolio including a reflective diary and discussion board as
well the facility to upload associated files.

Those present will be invited to explore this artefact, and
the experience of implementing it through action research will
be shared.
